About the Landersville Congregation
We are a small and caring group of about 45 Christians. Like all of God's children, we are not perfect, but we strive to do the Lord's work in a manner pleasing to Him every single day.
As with all congregations of the Lord's church, we are completely self-governing. Even though we have great fellowship with the members of other congregations, no other congregation or organization has authority over our affairs.
Our congregation is one of the oldest in Alabama. It has been in existence since the 1860's. Originally, the members met in a building about a mile southeast of Landersville at what is now called the Old Prospect Cemetery.
Landersville is a very small agricultural community in southwest Lawrence County about 7 miles west of the courthouse in Moulton and 4 miles north of the beautiful Warrior Mountains and Bankhead National Forest. Most of the members live within a few miles of Landersville.
Our present building has been in continuous use since 1889. Work has been done through the years so that it is comfortable all year long. In addition to our auditorium, we also have a baptistry, two classrooms, and a 100-seat fellowship hall with a kitchen and restrooms.
We have a regular minister, but at this point, we have no elders or deacons; the duties of both are carried out through regular business meetings. In addition to ongoing benevolence work in the community, our congregation provides financial support for Childhaven Children's Home in Cullman and a congregation of the Church of Christ in Peru, South America.
On every fourth Sunday of the month, our evening worship service is followed by a potluck fellowship meal in the fellowship hall.
Perhaps the most important thing to know "about us" is that you will always be warmly received by our congregation. Please come and visit us . . . you might even find a home here with the good folks of Landersville! |
